The grassy slope is a landmark and desirable place for viewers, where thousands of fans are often gathered to watch tennis matches on a giant video screen.
The All -Ungards Club has declared plans to start working to improve this legendary place after the next year tournament. The updated hill should be ready to receive guests in 2027, when Wimbledon celebrates its 150th anniversary. Consultations with locals are scheduled for the next week, before applying for reconstruction planning.
The work is aimed at improving access for people on wheelchairs, arrangement of more sitting places and improving the viewing space.
“These changes will allow 20% to increase the number of guests who use the space,” the club said.
Initially, the popular area was called “Hill Hanman” – in honor of Tim Hanman, after the British tennis player reached the semifinals of the tournament four times (1998–1999, 2001–2002). Subsequently, the hill was named after Andy Marrei when he won titles in 2013 and 2016.
