Ukrainians on the challengers: Bilozertsev’s record, Ursu – in the 1/4 finals of Islamabad

During the week of November 24 to 30, seven Challenger Series tournaments are held: in Playford (Australia), in Manama (Bahrain), in Athens (Greece), in Bogotá (Colombia), in Islamabad (Pakistan), in Maya (Portugal) and in Temuco (Chile).

Ukrainian tennis players play or have already played in three of them: in Manama, Athens and Islamabad.

He took part in Manama Yuri Javakyan (ATP 613), who in the first round was defeated by Mathis Bobichon (France, ATP 804) with a score of 1:6, 4:6.

The performance continues in Athens Oleksandr Brynin (ATP 793). Brianin started from the qualification where Courtney Locka (Zimbabwe, ATP 29) passed [6:2, 1:2, RET., Лок] and Dimitris Azoidis (Greece, ATP 1171) [7:5, 6:0].

At the start of the main draw, Brynin defeated Luca Potenza (Italy, ATP 364) with a score of 7:6 (7:5), 7:5. For the fourth time in his career and for the first time since 2023, Oleksandr held a match at the base of the challenger and won his first victory. On November 27, he will compete against the “neutral” Nikolai Vylegzhanin (ATP 494) in the round of 16 match.

In Islamabad, the national record of Ukraine was set by a 17-year-old Nikita Bilozertsev (ATP 832), who was defeated by Sabu Purtseladze (Georgia, ATP 287) in the first round of the main draw [6:2, 3:0, RET., Пурцеладзе] and became the youngest Ukrainian* to win the main draw of the Challenger category. In the second round, Nikita could not finish the match against the British Zak Stevens (ATR 1802) – 6:4, 6:7 (2:7), 0:5, RET., Bilozertsev.

He continues to perform in Islamabad Vadim Ursu (ATP 446). Ursu, seeded fifth, beat Muhammad Shoab (Pakistan) [6:3, 6:7 (9:11), 6:3] and Timofey Derepashka (ATP 797) [6:2, 6:1].

Vadym made it to the challenger quarterfinals for the second time in his career and will fight for his first semifinal against Jay Clark (Great Britain, ATP 200).

* – Bilozertsev can change his citizenship to Bulgarian. At Wimbledon, under the influence of his Bulgarian coach, he refused to answer questions in Ukrainian.
