The first racket of Ukraine Marta Kostyuk (WTA 18) completed the WTA 500 hard court tournament in Brisbane, Australia.

In the round of 16, the Ukrainian lost in two sets Yuan Yue (China, WTA 49) in 1 hour and 30 minutes.

This was the first meeting of the rivals. In the second game, Marta won 3:0, but lost the advantage, giving away 6 games in a row.

Kostiuk held the opening match of the new season. Yuan Yue will play against another Ukrainian Angelina Kalinina (WTA 55) in the 3rd round of the 500 on the Brisbane courts. In Brisbane, Kalinin already managed to beat Wang Yafan (China, WTA 61) and Diana Schneider (WTA 13).

Dayana Yastremska (Ukraine, WTA 33) also opened 2025 unsuccessfully on January 1, losing to Anastasia Potapova (WTA 35).
