“Dmytro Babelyuk – about the doping case of the Polish tennis player”, — write: sport.ua
“Iga Cviontek’s doping case is coming to an end.
Let me remind you that at the beginning of September, Iga was notified of a positive test for trimetazidine (a drug that is supposed to potentially affect the metabolism of the heart, but is not registered in the USA or WB. In Ukraine, it is known as Preductal).
Both A and B samples confirmed the presence of the substance in a sample taken at the end of August 2024.
Iga and her team immediately began to cooperate and, denying any conscious participation of the athlete in taking the drug, began to check all supplements and vitamins that the Pole regularly takes.
And it turned out that the melatonin capsules (a supplement to improve the effects of jet lag), which Iga regularly takes, contained trimetazidine. She bought this batch of supplements in Poland.
This factor became key in Iga’s case (as well as in Pogba’s case, where it was proven that a prohibited substance was ingested through contaminated vitamins), because she received only 1 month of symbolic ban.
This month ends already at the end of December, so the whole story took about 4 months.”
