The only Ukrainian in 1/32 finals: Kostyuk successfully started on US Open

The second racket of Ukraine Martha Kostyuk (WTA 28) won a starting match at the US Open Championship 2025.

In the first round, Ukrainian in two sets beat the UK representative Katie Bulter (WTA 48) in 1 hour and 38 minutes.

It was a second meeting of rivals. In 2024, Martha gave way to Katie in the final of the five hundred in San Diego.

In the second round, US Open Kostyuk will fight against Zaynep Sonmez from Turkey, who at the start of the competition was overcome by Katie Volynets.

Martha is the only Ukrainian who managed to break through the 1/32 finals of Major in New York. Earlier, Elina Svitolina, Diana Yastremskaya and Yulia Starodubtseva failed to overcome the first round.

Kostyuk elaborates on the American blind. Its best result is the stage 1/16 of the finals, to which it reached in 2020 and 2024.
