In the third game, Monteiro earned two match points in the 10th game on the reception. But Kei fought back and won the next two games and then the next two sets.
Nishikori is playing at the Australian Open for the first time since 2021 and won his first since 2019 on the Melbourne courts. Then he reached the quarterfinals.
In the 2nd round of the major, Key will play against the winner of the match between Christopher O’Connell (Australia, ATP 64) and Tommy Paul (USA, ATP 12).
It is interesting that in 2025, Nishikori played his 6th match, in which he won his fifth victory, four of them over shulgi. On December 5, Kei reached the final in Hong Kong, where he lost to Alexander Muller.
