The Brisbane final will raise Marta Kostiuk into the top 20 of the WTA ranking

Thanks to reaching the finals of the WTA 500 tournament in Brisbane (Australia), regardless of the result of the decisive match against the representative of the Lukashenka collective farm Aryna Sobolenka, Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk will climb into the top 20 of the world ranking.

Thanks to reaching the Brisbane final, Marta already added 324 rating points and rose from the 26th position to the 20th. The Ukrainian beat the Belgian Elise Mertens, the Canadian Leila Fernandez, the seemingly neutral Katsapka Diana Schneider, the Latvian Alona Ostapenko, the Chinese Zheng Qinwen and the Spanish Paula Badosa. In case of victory in the final, Kostyuk will be able to move up two more positions, but it is too early to talk about it.

We will remind that in Brisbane, Marta beat three current representatives of the top 10 of the WTA ranking – American Amanda Anisimov, Muscovite Mirra Andreeva and American Jessica Pegula – as well as one former player – Yulia Putintseva from Kazakhstan. We would like to believe that the final in this collection will be the leader of the rating, Sabalienko, who, regardless of the result of the final, has already strengthened her position, having earned 205 points.

Elina Svitolina will also rise from next week in the WTA ranking thanks to reaching the final of the WTA 250 tournament in Auckland (New Zealand). She has already improved her rating by 163 points and will rise from 13th to 12th place. In case of victory in the final over the Chinese Wan Xinyu, Elina will secure the 12th position. The 11th will be out of reach for now.

The biggest regression according to the results of this game week befell the already mentioned Putintseva. After losing in the round of 16 against Kostyuk in Brisbane, she will lose 31 positions and drop out of the top 100 – from 74th to 105th place.
