January 13, Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina (WTA 27) beat Sorana Kirsti (Romania, WTA 71) in the 1st round of the 2025 Australian Open.
The match ended with the score 6:4, 6:4 in 1 hour and 34 minutes in favor of the Ukrainian. Svitolina served one serve per game.
The win was Elina’s first since Aug. 29, when she defeated Angelina Kalina in the second round of the 2024 US Open. After Svitolina, she left the US major with a loss to Coco Goff, then ended the season and underwent foot surgery in September.
Svitolina has not played in the Tour since September. The Australian Open is the first tournament of the 30-year-old Ukrainian in 2025. Elina’s next opponent will be either Sarah Beilek or Caroline Doleheide.
