Greek tennis player Stephanos Tsitsipas (ATP 11) commented on the defeat to Alex Mickelsen (USA, ATP 41) in the 1st round of the Australian Open 2025:
“It’s quite ironic. The plan was to try to go as far as possible here. I knew that for this, first of all, it was necessary to give up participation in the couple. I think karma caught up with me. I wasn’t able to play as well as I had hoped. And the goal was to gain strength and approach the later stages of the tournament fresh.
The worst thing about losing at the start of a Grand Slam is that there is too much time left to recover. I would prefer it to be the other way around. It just sucks that I’ll be sitting idle for a while until the next tournament.”
