37-year-old German tennis player Laura Sagmund For the first time in her career she made his way to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon and for the second time – in Grand Slam tournaments. At this stage, her rival will be the first racket of Arina Sobolenko’s world racket.

Pride and surprise from your own success: Pagmund wants more on Wimbledon 2025

“I would never believe that I would be able to go to the quarterfinals here, especially at this stage of my career. However, tennis is sometimes very simple – it is pure mathematics. It all comes down to the search for the right tactical solutions and their exact implementation. I always had the courage to play against strong opponents in the big arenas. It doesn’t matter who is on the other side of the net – I just analyze the game of the opponent and focus on myself.

I am very proud of my level, but I try not to enjoy too much, because I still have a job that I need to complete – I’m a professional. Perhaps I can truly appreciate this result only after the tournament is completed, as I want to stay focused. I know there are aspects that need to be improved and I have to do it if I want to continue this path. ”

An unexpected breakthrough on the grass

“My favorite coating has always been soil, and every year I used this segment of the season to the maximum, and went to the grass without proper preparation. It always seemed to me that as soon as I began to get used to the grass – the season was already over. But I really think that my game qualities are well suited for this cover: I confidently go to the grid, I love short strokes, slices, change the pace. This year, I managed to work well and play well in Nottingham – it added confidence. ”

Uncomfortable game style and behavior on the court

“I do not build my manner of playing or behavior on the court to annoy the rivals – it just happens to many of them. I have a very unusual style, and not everyone likes it. I have always made a variety in my game, but now I also managed to increase the aggressiveness of strokes from the rear line.

I can assure you: I am not looking for confrontation with opponents, but I understand that I have controversial habits – for example, time between draws or my non -verbal reaction. But I do it for myself, I remain true to myself and do not change my behavior depending on who opposite or in what context the match takes place. ”
