January 8 Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina (WTA 29) held an exhibition match before the start of the 2025 Australian Open.

On Wednesday, the Ukrainian lost in two sets Zheng Qinwen (China, WTA 5) in a charity match with a score of 2:6, 2:6 in 1 hour and 9 minutes.

Elina first held a full match, albeit an unofficial one, after the leg surgery she underwent in September 2024.

In 2025, neither Elina nor Zheng have yet played on the Tour. The Australian Open will be the first competition of the new season for both.

Already tomorrow, January 9, the men’s and women’s singles draw ceremony will take place in Melbourne. In addition to Elina, Marta Kostyuk, Dayana Yastremska, Angelina Kalinina and Yulia Starodubtseva are also guaranteed to perform at the first major of the year from Ukrainian women. Darya Snigur continues her struggle in the qualification.

Svitolina will train with Svyontek before the start of the Australian Open 2025
