The first set for the Ukrainian-Romanian tandem turned out to be unsuccessful – the opponents easily won it in 37 minutes with a score of 2:6.
In the second set, Kostyuk and Ruse significantly improved their game. They showed resilience and composure to win 7-5 after 51 minutes of hard-fought action.
The third, decisive set became a real confrontation with a dramatic finale. The intrigue remained until the last game, and it seemed that Kostyuk and Ruse would be able to turn the tide of the match. However, at the end of the set Shuvey and Ostapenko managed to hold their serve and finished the match in their favor with the score 5:7.
The winners of this confrontation will meet either Japanese Miya Kato and Mexican Renata Sarasua, or Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and New Zealander Erin Rutliff in the semifinals.
