– Sergius, who do you now see in Ukraine an extension of glorious traditions in men’s tennis? Who has serious prospects?
– In the initial and junior tennis, I did not show super results myself. So now the question is that promising young athletes are gradually developing. In particular, they trained and played for many years to reach men’s tennis at all.
Last year, when we conducted a master class together with Elina Svolin, we paid attention to several promising 14-year-old guys. They can show a high result over time. But with these athletes they need to work seriously, and they themselves should strive to improve.
-Who can still be distinguished among Ukrainian tanisists?
– Unfortunately, our boys do not show high results. They are not banally in the top list of the world rating.
– What caused it?
– Many factors. For example, one of our leaders has graduated from a sports career. In particular, Ilya Marchenko.
Recently, Oleksandr Ovcharenko first reached the quarterfinals of the tournament-“Chellenger”. It may continue to reach significant heights. We are waiting for a bright sports future from Ukrainian youth, – said Sergei.
