“German tennis player of Ukrainian origin told about her disease”, – WRITE: Sport.ua
“The diagnosis took a while because I had different symptoms, but they did not appear at the same time, so we didn’t know what exactly. I have a doctor at home, in Hamburg, he is with me from 10 years. Without him, I would not be able to play tennis. After he appreciated my problems, he had a theory that it could be associated with arthritis, spondyloarthritis. As I heard it, I just laughed. I thought, they say, okay, I’m young enough, I do not think that I may have such a disease. So, after we talked to the doctors, made several examinations and the like was diagnosed.
I think it was strange for the first weeks, because I did not admit it all very much. At about this time, I had the worst problems. I wasn’t on the court. I couldn’t play with that. Yes I think it was important for me to know the diagnosis to know what to do to get back to the court. Doctors told me that it would not hurt me to become the first racket if you treat me properly. So I constantly thought about it. The first months were difficult. But I had a wonderful family, wonderful friends, who still have, which certainly helped me go because of it not alone.
I was diagnosed in 2020. Now the 2025th year and this is the first year when I can really say that I know how to handle it, I know how to give advice to my workout, how much I can press when it is time to really just relax. I will not lie, in the last weeks I had days when my body didn’t do what should. Even the preparation here may have been one or two workouts because it is what I have to do so. I know that if I give my body time it will recover. The next day I am stronger than ever. I just need to find the right balance between recovery and training process. ”
