American tennis player Katie Volynets (No. 60 WTA) won the first round match in the main draw of the WTA 1000 hard tournament in Beijing and defeated the 14th-seeded Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk (No. 18 WTA).

In the first round, the American of Ukrainian origin defeated Dalma Galfi from Hungary (No. 143 WTA).
