Japanese tennis player Myka Utzima (WTA 56) in 1/16 of the soil tournament finals WTA 1000 in Madrid Opened the Third World Rackette Jessica Pegul with a score of 6: 3, 6: 2.

This victory was the first to be the first over the rival with the TOP-10. Earlier in the second round, Utzima overcame the 26th Sijana Onsy Zhaber. By the way, the representative of Tunisia in the finals of 2022 won here Pegul.

Victory in the next match of the 1/8 finals over the “neutral” Ekaterina Alexandrov may first bring Utzim to the TOP-50 world ranking WTA.

After a sensational victory, Myko told reporters about herself and her tennis way.

Utzima was born in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and then moved to Tokyo, Japan at the age of 7-8 years. On the way to her elementary school was the office of her father Kadzuto, who worked at Bristol Company, where there were tennis courts.

“At that time, I was engaged in swimming and basketball, but I wanted to try something new. So I started playing tennis with my sister. Swimming was difficult – the same thing every day. Basketball did not like the basketball – all the time it was necessary to run. But I really liked to beat the ball. ”

Initially, the Japanese tennis player had a little experience of playing soil.

“I played on Hardy and artificial grass – in Japan these are the most common coatings. The soil was a real test for me. But a few years ago, I began to find my game on the ground. In fact, this style is best for me. Last year, everything happened. This year I did not particularly train on the ground, but from match to match I feel better. I am starting to play more and more on the ground. ”

Two years ago, Utzima lost in the first round of qualifying in Madrid. Last year, its rating was not high enough to get to qualifications, so it played and won the ITF W100 tournament on a different site in Madrid. This victory became part of its 19th-match victorious series and three ITF titles. Then she successfully passed the qualification and went to the second round, Rolan Harros, which allowed her to enter the top 100 for the first time.

“I had a lot of intense matches: against Mirra Andreeva on Australian Open, against Coco Goff in Indian-Vells. I felt that I could play at the top-players level, but then I could not win, lacked a little. This week, even in the first round, Robin Montgomery “destroyed” me in the first set (1: 6), but I tried not to think too much and do everything I can at the moment.

Last year, I played ITF tournaments and looked at these TV players. And now I play at the same tournament myself. Back here in the main grid is a very special feeling. I still can’t believe it. As if in a dream.

I hope I can continue in the same spirit. I still can’t believe in my game today. I just want to keep the same level tomorrow or if my next match was. I don’t even know who my next rival will be. ”
