The former third racket of the world in men’s singles Milos Raonic from Canada announced the end of his professional career:

“The time has come. I am ending my professional career in tennis. It’s that moment you know will come, but you can’t really be ready for it. I am as ready as it is possible to be. Tennis has been my love and obsession for most of my life.

I am incredibly lucky to live and fulfill my dreams. I went out on the court every day focused on just getting better, seeing where it would take me, and playing the game I was introduced to at the age of eight – completely by accident. Somehow it became my entire obsession and childhood, and then it turned into a profession and my whole life.

I am grateful for the amazing fans all over the world that I got to play and train in front of. They saw me in the best moments and in the most difficult moments on the court. They saw me grow up. Thank you to everyone who even stopped for a moment to look and support me.

Thank you to my coaches and entire team who sacrificed time with their families and home to be with me on the journey as I pursued my dreams and goals. I am infinitely grateful for your guidance and knowledge.

Thank you ATP tour, ITF and all Grand Slam tournaments. It has been my dream to play in your big tournaments and I am lucky enough to have this experience alongside great people who do everything they can for the great game called tennis.

Thanks to all my colleagues and rivals. I looked up to you when I was growing up, I looked up to you throughout my career and I will continue to look up to you as a fan. Because of you, I have become the best player I can be, a better person and learned the most important life lessons from competing against you week in and week out for over two decades.

Thank you Canada. More than 30 years ago, my family and I came here. Because of you, I chose tennis, because of you, my family’s life changed, and I enjoyed every moment of being able to represent you around the world.

Mom, Dad, Olena and Momyr – I am eternally grateful to you for putting your life on hold so often so that I could have a chance to follow my dream. All this became possible only thanks to you. Without your constant support, efforts and emotional return, nothing would have been possible. And as happy as I am to have found tennis, it’s nothing compared to how lucky I am to have such parents, sister and brother.

I hope to be proud of my wife and son every day and become the same family for them as my family was for me.

A huge part of my tennis journey has been the amazing people I’ve been lucky enough to meet all over the world. In many cases, they became mentors, helping me figure out my future life. I am grateful to them for their care, time and support, which made the answers to life’s most important questions more understandable and inspiring.

What’s next? I’m not going to slow down. I still have so much life ahead of me and I’m just as motivated and hungry for new goals as I was in 2011 when I made my breakthrough on tour. I will put the same dedication and intensity into the next stage. If I can strive for the same level of excellence as I do in tennis, trying to get better every day, we’ll see where that takes me.”

35-year-old Milos has won eight trophies at the Tour level. In 2016, he reached the Wimbledon final, as well as the semi-finals of the Australian Open and the Finals. During his career, Raonic earned $20,764,512.

Raonic last played at the 2024 Olympics, where he lost to Dominik Kepfer in the first round.

The time has come, I am retiring from tennis. This is a moment you know will come one day, but somehow you never feel ready for it. This is as ready as I will ever be. Tennis has been my love and obsession for most of my life.

I have been the luckiest person to get to live out…
