First top-10 loss: ATP No. 8 exits early at Aus Open

Canadian tennis player Felix Auger-Alassime (ATP 8) finished his performances at the Australian Open 2026.

In the first round, the Canadian entered the court against Nunu Borges (Portugal, ATP 46). After three sets, Auger refused to continue the match – the match ended in 2 hours and 16 minutes.

Felix withdrew from the match due to a left hip/hamstring problem that started in the third game.

Auger-Alyassime became the first tennis player from the top 10 of the ATP ranking to leave the Australian Open. In 2022, Felix reached the semi-finals of a major in Melbourne.

Borges is making his fourth appearance at the Austrslian Open. His best result is the Round of 16 stage in 2024.

In the second round, Nunu will meet the winner of the confrontation between Juan Manuel Cherundolo (Argentina, ATP 87) and Jordan Thompson (Australia, ATP 111).
