The previous record belonged to the 1982 finals, in which Mats Winlander won the Guillerma of the Night in four sets (1: 6, 7: 6, 6: 0, 6: 4) for 4 hours 42 minutes. At the same time, the first set, which was only seven games, lasted almost an hour.
