29-year-old Italian tennis player Matteo Berrettini (ATP 59) withdrew from the 2026 Australian Open.

“I am very sorry that I have to withdraw from the tournament. I’ve always loved being here and playing and I really appreciate your incredible support. Thanks to the organizers of the tournament for the wonderful organization and I hope to see you all again soon,” Matteo said.

Berrettini withdrew from the Australian Open due to illness. Matteo will be replaced by American Mackenzie McDonald, who will meet Alex de Minaur in the first round.

For Matteo, who at one time took sixth place in the ATP ranking, this is the eighth missed Grand Slam tournament since 2022.
