In the first round, the Ukrainian had to play against the representative of the USA Michael Mmo (ATP 228), but the American withdrew from the major due to an injury he received last week at the competition in Hong Kong.
Instead of Mmo, he got to the selection grid Viktor Durasovych (Norway, ATP 323). If Vitaliy was considered an outsider in the MMO, then the bookmakers have the Ukrainian as the favorite against the Norwegian.
Previously, Sachko played against Durasovich only once. In 2021, Vitaliy beat Viktor in the dirt 25-thousandth race in the Czech Republic.
The meeting between Sachko and Durasovych will take place on the night of January 13 and will start approximately at 05:30 Kyiv time. In the second round, the winner of this match will play against either Moirani Budzig (Australia, ATP 467) or Liam Draxl (Canada, ATP 145).
