Carlos ALCARAZ: “We have too many mandatory tournaments”

The third number in the world ranking Carlos Alcaraz after defeating Ben Shelton at the Laver Cup, made it clear that the Tour’s schedule is so tight that it can take a toll on players, a topic he’s very concerned about.

“Honestly, there are a lot of really good players on Tour, and obviously each of them feels different. Many players want to play more or even more. Many players feel that this is a good calendar. And many players say that it is very tight and there are many tournaments throughout the year. I’m one of those players who thinks there’s a lot of tournaments, must-wins, and there’s probably going to be more tournaments, even more must-wins over the next few years. So, probably, they will somehow kill us (smiles).

Nowadays, tennis players have many injuries because of balls, because of the calendar, because of many things. So maybe at some point a lot of good players will miss a lot of tournaments because they have to think about their bodies, they have to take care of the ones they love. They have a family, they have many other things in life besides tennis. So they have to take care of that too. So it’s getting too much, I think,” Alcaraz said.
