ATP eyes Saudi Arabia: eighth Masters on the horizon?

ATP President Andrea Gaudenzi discussed the prospects of the tournament in Saudi Arabia”, — write: sport.ua

In the midst of the ATP Finals, the president Andrea Gaudenzi commented on the possible holding of a new, tenth tournament of the Masters series in Saudi Arabia. Gaudenzi noted that such an expansion is possible, but not before 2028, as a number of infrastructure works must be completed for this.

“If this happens, then not before 2028, because it takes time to carry out infrastructure works. The rest of the Masters tournaments are not at risk because they have category protection for 30 years. The approach to the Saudis was open, we listened to their intentions because they want to invest in tennis and help us. We want to build bridges, not barriers. When I first played in Dubai and Doha in the 90s, things were different, but now they have come a long way. Saudi Arabia also wants changes,” Gaudenzi emphasized, recalling the progress achieved by the countries of the region since the 1990s.

We will remind that this year the Final WTA tournament was held in Riyadh, and was not particularly popular among the local population.
