Reilly Opelka and Alexander Vukich very cleverly got into the basis of the last Masters of the season. They were supposed to go head-to-head in the final qualifying round, but the American pulled out of the match and ended up in the draw as a lucky loser – Reilly knew he’d get a spot in the main draw for sure, as Jakub Menczyk and Benjamin Bonzi withdrew from the competition, and the American was ranked higher among all the contenders.
However, Reilly failed to make it to the 1/16 finals. In the first round, he was defeated by the Frenchman Corentin Moute, who will next fight against Alexander Bublyk. Vukic will start the meeting of the 1/32 finals on October 28 and will take the court against the fourth seed Taylor Fritz.
Last year’s finalist Hugo Umber was supposed to start in Bersa on Tuesday in a match against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, but the French representative withdrew due to a back injury. Instead of Umber, Valenten Roye will play against Fokina, who lost to Sebastian Cordy in the final selection and received the status of a lucky loser.
A day earlier in Paris, 34-year-old Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov won his first-round match, defeating Giovanni Mpeschi Perricar. Dimitrov played his first match at Wimbledon-2024, where he suffered a pectoral muscle injury. Dimitrov will fight either Jaume Munyar or Daniil Medvedev in the round of 16.
On October 28, world leader Carlos Alcaraz will also play his opening match on the courts of the French capital. The Spaniard will play Cameron Norrie – the Briton was knocked out by Sebastian Baez in the first round. Reigning champion Alexander Zverev and world number two Yannick Sinner will begin action in Bersa on the 29th, with Zverev taking on Camilo Hugo Karabeli and Sinner taking on Zizou Bergs.
