The leader of the world ranking of the APR Carlos Alcaraz gave a flash interview after a crazy Australian Open 2026 semi-final against Alexander Zverev:

– Carlos, it was difficult for you. You still have physical problems. In the middle of the match, you experienced serious difficulties. In the fifth set, you were giving up the break all the time. How did you even manage to win this match?

– To believe all the time. I always say that you have to believe in yourself no matter what. It doesn’t matter what difficulties you go through, what happens to you – you still have to constantly believe in yourself. I struggled in the middle of the third set. Physically, it was one of the most grueling matches I’ve ever played in my, let’s say, short career.

But I’ve been in similar situations, I’ve played matches like this before, so I knew what I had to do. I had to put all my heart into the match. I think I did it. I fought until the last ball. I knew I would have a chance. I was very passionate, especially in the fifth set. And I am incredibly proud of myself – the way I fought and how I came back in the fifth set.

– This will be the last question, because you need to recover. On Sunday, you will play for your first Australian Open trophy. You will also try to become the youngest man in history to win all four majors – complete the career Grand Slam. What will it mean to you to do this on Sunday night?

– Well, thank you for putting such pressure on me right now. Just kidding, just kidding, don’t worry. I’m just really, really happy to be able to play my first final here in Melbourne. This is what I longed for and chased after. The opportunity to fight for the title. These two weeks were great. I think my level has increased a lot. But there’s one thing I have to say: I wouldn’t be standing here right now doing this interview without you guys. It was a real pleasure for me to play in front of you. The way you brought me back into the match, the way you pushed me every time, for every ball, for every point – it was crazy.

I am really very grateful for the support I received not only in this match, but throughout the tournament. I hope there will be a great atmosphere and amazing support here on Sunday. I can’t wait. But right now, my thoughts are only on recovery to try to be in good shape and put on a show for you. I’ll see you on Sunday, I guess.

Alcaraz defeated Zverev 6:4, 7:6 (7:5), 6:7 (3:7), 6:7 (4:7), 7:5, serving for the match in the ninth game of the fifth set. In the Aus Open final, Carlos will face the winner of the Novak Djokovic vs Yannick Sinner match.
