“The leader of the world ranking commented on the result of the match with Yannick in Turinβ, β write: sport.ua
“I am very, very happy with the level I showed in this match. I played against someone who didn’t surrender a single match [Π² Π·Π°Π»Ρ] in two years. So that shows how great of a player Sinner is. They and the team constantly work hard, fight very hard, and even harder after each defeat. These defeats were few, but after each one you come back even stronger.
Sinner’s improvement since the US Open final and his indoor level? First of all, I never doubted myself or my level on indoor courts. And I definitely had no doubt that I would be able to keep pace with Yannik in the hall. From the very beginning and throughout the match, I was sure that I could beat him, that I could compete with him here. Therefore, it was not a surprise for me that the match turned out to be so tight. Everything focused only on tennis.
I’m happy with how I played. I am sure that my level in the hall will only increase. Of course, I felt how Yannyk added after the US Open. I have said many times: a player of this level always comes back stronger after defeats. He knows how to give lessons. And he showed it again – first of all, with his submission. He constantly pressed, it is very difficult to play with him.
Details that decided? Watching a match from the sidelines and playing it are two different universes. So we will sit down and figure it all out together. I will tell you how I felt on the court, where I went wrong – or where I think I went wrong. The coaches will say what they saw: my weak and strong points. And we will try to improve all this. I already have several moments in my head – I voiced them immediately after the match.
The season is almost over, preparation for the new season is just around the corner. I will try to invest in it as much as possible to start the year even stronger. But, as I said, everything was decided by the details. And next time, I will try to make these details work in my favor.
Why did you lose? The main thing is that I didn’t use the moments that I had. Set ball in the first… In general, I received well in both sets. But he bowled a 185-190km/h second pitch β to be honest, it caught me off guard.
Then there were also draws in the tie-break, which I could and should have taken. In the second set, I led with a break, at 30:15 on my serve I did not bring the game to the end. Now several moments and shots pop into my head. For example, the shots from the summer on the left that I missed. There were quite a few of them – some of them I played badly, and that’s a big disappointment. I think this became the key. In important moments, I didn’t finish plays near the net, but he circled or threw candles. Today it was a really important shot – and it didn’t go well for me.”
