18-year-old American tennis player Iva Jovich (WTA 27) advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2026 Australian Open.

In the fourth round, the young American defeated the representative of Kazakhstan Yulia Putintseva (WTA 94) in 53 minutes.

Jovich held the first face-to-face confrontation against Putintseva. Her next opponent will be world number one Arina Sobolenko, who defeated Victoria Mboko in her fourth round match.

For the first time in her career, Iva made it to the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam tournament. It will also be Jovic’s fourth Tour-level quarterfinal.

In addition to Putintseva, Jovich has also already passed Katie Volynets, Priscilla Hon and Jasmine Paolini in Melbourne. Her 11 wins in 2026 (Auckland semi-final and Hobart final) are the best on Tour.

Iva became the youngest tennis player to reach the Australian Open women’s singles quarterfinals without dropping a set since Venus Williams in 1998.

Jovic is also the youngest tennis player since Maria Sharapova in 2005 to reach the quarterfinals in her first three tournaments in a calendar year.
