The first Ukrainian football player (during independence) who was caught using doping was a player of the Polish “Legia” Roman Zub. The former player of Luhansk “Zora” and Lutsk “Volyn” signed a 3-year contract with the Polish club in 1993.

After 10 matches played for Legia, Roman Zub tested positive for doping and received a one-year suspension. The player was accused of taking testosterone.

Despite the termination of the contract with the Polish club, Roman Zub was able to resume his career and signed a contract with Lviv “Karpaty”. But after three seasons, the player and the club said goodbye. After that, Zub played for teams of lower leagues.

Yaroslav Khoma known for his performances for Lutsk “Volyn” and Lviv “Karpaty”. In 2001, he even signed a contract with Shakhtar Donetsk. In the same year, he made his debut for the Ukrainian national team in a match against Georgia in the selection for the 2002 World Cup.

The transition to the “Miners” was not very successful, because Khoma mostly played for the double, so he decided to return to “Karpat”. In 2003, he received a seven-month disqualification on suspicion of doping. He finished his career in “Metallurg” from Zaporizhzhia and “Volyn” from Lutsk, but was rarely included in the main team.

What hopes were placed on the Ukrainian goalkeeper Oleksandr Rybka. In 2010, the pupil of Kyiv “Dynamo” transferred to “Obolon”. There, the goalkeeper showed a very good game and was noticed by the scouts of Shakhtar Donetsk, which acquired Rybka in 2011.

On January 30, 2012, UEFA disqualified Rybka from official matches for 2 years due to the banned substance furosemide, which was found in the player’s tests.

After serving the disqualification, the goalkeeper signed a contract with “Dynamo”, but took part in 20 matches in two seasons. Rybka still hasn’t finished his playing career. The 37-year-old goalkeeper has a contract with Obolon Kyiv. Also, in his career after disqualification, there were clubs from Turkey, Latvia, Azerbaijan.

Trainee of Kyiv “Dynamo” Artem Besedin started his career at the club in 2013. In 2016, he made his debut for the main team in a match against Karpaty. As if everything was going well for the forward. There were even calls to the national team of Ukraine, but on December 19, 2019 Besyedin was charged with possible doping. Subsequently, the player received a one-year suspension.

After serving the disqualification, Besyedin continued to be a Dynamo player. Later, the player had a career with Cypriot “Omonia” in which he played only 10 matches, and currently the Ukrainian is a player of “Ordabasi”.

The day before, information appeared that a prohibited substance was found in the analyzes of Mykhailo Mudryk’s doping samples.
