President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky awarded the title Hero of Ukraine Stepan Chubenko, who was detained in the summer of 2014, tortured for a pro -Ukrainian position and killed terrorists of the so -called DNR.
At that moment, the activist and goalkeeper of the Avangard football team (Kramatorsk) was only 16 years old.
“To assign the title Hero of Ukraine with awarding the Order of the Golden Star Stepan Viktorovich Chubenko – a public activist (posthumously). For civic courage, patriotism and indomitability, revealed during the events related to the protection of the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, the heroic upholding of the constitutional principles of democracy, human rights and freedoms, ”the presidential decree reads.
In honor of Stepan, football tournaments are held in Kramatorsk.
