The main match of the first game day at the World Youth Hockey Championship was the confrontation between Canada and Finland.

Goalkeeper Carter George made 31 saves and did not miss, and forward Gavin McKenna, who is tentatively considered a top prospect of the 2026 draft, scored the decisive puck.
