The Englishman then lost the rematch by a unanimous points decision last December.
Fury announced his latest retirement from boxing in the following month.
But he has hinted at a possible comeback throughout 2025 and continues to stay in shape in the gym in case he can get another crack at Usyk.
However, his promoter Frank Warren revealed in October that his man would be prepared to step back into the ring because he has unfinished business with the unbeaten veteran.
Warren said: “The fight he really wants is another go with Mr Usyk, he really wants that.
“And they were great fights, really close fights, to watch. I’d watch that again.
“That’s the fight he wants. That’s the one he talks about all the time.”

Now, that third fight has taken a step closer.
Usyk gave up the WBO heavyweight belt this week, allowing Fabio Wardley to automatically become champ following his October victory over Joseph Parker.
That means Usyk no longer has to fight Wardley as mandatory WBO challenger with all the belts on the line.
And with Wardley the new world champ, Usyk is seemingly free from any obligatory fights – and therefore can pursue whichever bouts he wants.
Therefore, that could see him arrange a money-spinning third showdown with Fury.
Fury would be desperate to get his revenge for the double defeats while Usyk has nothing to prove by beating the Morecambe man for a third time.
Speaking in July after Usyk beat Daniel Dubois, Fury said: “Massive shout out to Oleksandr Usyk.
“He did a fantastic performance tonight over Daniel Dubois, a good, young, game lad who came for a good tear, so congratulations to both men but Oleksandr Usyk knows there is only one man who can beat him.
“I did it twice before and the world knows it.
“I have been f***ing good and proper. I took it like a man and here is me, not f***ing around at some boxing match, I am out on the road running. I am running tonight.
“I came home, I did my job and I got myself back and I am the man.
“I am the f***ing spartan and no matter what anyone wants to say, I won those fights. Guaranteed, 100 per cent. There is only one man. GK (Gypsy King) all day every day. Get up!”
