DANCING On Ice judges Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean are preparing to skate on the show for a final time.

The Olympic champions have worked on Dancing On Ice since it launched in 2006.

EMBARGOED PICTURE: FOR PUBLICATION FROM 5th DECEMBER 2020 From Wingspan Productions DANCING ON THIN ICE WITH TORVILL AND DEAN Friday 1st January 2021 on ITV Pictured: (l-r) Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean dance to the Bolero on a frozen mountain lake in the Alaskan Wilderness Olympic champions Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean have spent a remarkable 45 years on the ice together, but, astonishingly, have never skated in the great outdoors. Now, in this unique, magical, 90-minute special, the pair will travel to Alaska on an extraordinary quest to fulfil a life-long dream. And, on their way, they discover first-hand the dramatic effects of climate change. Jayne and Chris recall how as children they were inspired by a mural in Nottingham ice rink showing skaters on a frozen mountain lake. Ever since, they’ve wanted to skate free in nature, rather than around in circles on artificial ice. But luck is against them – in Alaska’s hottest year on record there is not a lot of ice to be found. The effects of global warming on the environment are already being felt. So Jayne and Chris’s travels into the remote wilderness will become a hunt for wild ice, skating wherever they can, as they seek to find the perfect place to dance a special Bolero. From train to husky sled, from frozen lakes to glaciers, it will be a spectacular journey. However this year will see the duo embark on their final tour – and it will also be the last time they skate on Dancing On Ice.

Speaking to The Sun, Christopher said: “This will be our last live skate on here on Dancing On Ice because we’re doing our final tour this year.

“So once we’ve finished our last skate on the tour we won’t be performing again.”

And he confessed they’re looking forward to well-deserved break after decades of skating together.

Asked how he feels ahead of skating for a final time, Christopher said: “Ready!

“We’ve been doing it a long time and people our age shouldn’t be doing it now, so we’re just happy that we can still do it.”

In last night’s series launch episode, presenter Holly Willoughby was reduced to tears as the duo opened up about their plans.

Telling fans about their farewell tour, Christopher said: “We’re 50 years skating together.

“It’s our last tour, last time round, so when we’ve finished the tour our skates will be hung up.”

Holly filled up with tears – telling the skaters: “I can’t, it makes me so sad.”

She and co-host Stephen Mulhern were relieved when they told of plans to continue on Dancing on Ice after retiring.

“We’re not retiring from judging on Dancing on Ice,” Christopher confirmed.
