The Mercedes pilot came to Baku under pressure after an unsuccessful European segment of the season, where he often stayed without points and was criticized for unstable performances in his debut. Particularly many complaints were caused by a race in Italy, which Totto Wolf was characterized as “neo -aging”.
In Baku, the 19-year-old Italian demonstrated a confident speed and finished the fourth, making a race without serious mistakes on a complex street track.
“The European segment was frankly weak, even discussing nothing. Immediately the route is much more complicated, there was no stock for errors, and everything was very intense. The pace was high, I made a few small mistakes, but it was my first start in Baku at the wheel of the car F1. We did not even have long series of circles in practice, so everything was in the moment, ”Antonelli said, adding that he felt much better than in Monc.
The future of the Italian in Mercedes for 2026 has not yet been confirmed, as well as his partner George Russell, but it is expected that both pilots will remain in the team.
“It was a difficult period, the European part of the season. After all criticism and difficult moments, we were able to achieve good results. Now the main thing is to show such stability in the future, ”Antonelli summed up.
