The Shakhtar and Man City legend has become a free agent, leaving his hometown club

The legendary former Shakhtar and Manchester City player Fernandinho, who also played 53 matches (2 goals) for the Brazilian national team, became a free agent.

The veteran announced that he was leaving Atletico Paranaense, with whom his contract expired on December 31, 2024.

“When I returned home after many years, I was welcomed with open arms. Every time I put on the Atlético Paranaense shirt, all the fans greeted me with love and respect. I will remember it forever. And now it’s time to go another way, but I’m going with the confidence that my connection with Atlético Paranaense will never be broken,” Fernandinho wrote.

Atletico Paranaense is the home club for the defensive midfielder. It was there that he began to take his first steps in football, later becoming a professional player, and in the summer of 2005, for 7.8 million euros, he went to conquer Europe, where he played first in Shakhtar, and then in Manchester City, which he paid for the transfer Fernandinho in 2013 40 million euros.

At the end of the 2024 season, Atlético Paranaense was relegated from the Brazilian Serie A, taking 17th place in the standings.
