Former Formula 1 and IndyCar series test driver Simona de Silvestro has officially qualified for the home Winter Olympics in Milan. The athlete will represent the Italian national team in bobsled disciplines. The Olympics will start on February 6, and Simona’s performances are scheduled for the middle of the competition.
De Silvestro’s career in motorsport was rich: in 2014, she conducted tests at the wheel of a Sauber car at the Fiorano circuit, but could not get the place of the main driver of F1. After that, she competed in IndyCar, Formula E and the Australian V8 Supercars series. In 2022, Simona decided to make a radical change in her career and switched to bobsleigh.
At her first games, the Italian woman will compete in two categories: monobob (single downhill) and women’s doubles competition. De Silvestro noted that this success is the result of a big dream, which she was not afraid to achieve, despite the skepticism of those around her.
