Ukrainian tennis player Angelina Kalinin (WTA 55) reached the 1/8 finals of the WTA 500 tournament in Brisbane, Australia.

In the 2nd round, the Ukrainian beat the “neutral” in three sets Diana Schneider (WTA 13) in 1 hour and 50 minutes.

This was the first meeting of the rivals. In the second game, Angelina almost returned to the game with a score of 1:5.

In the 3rd round of the competition on the courts of Australia, Kalinin will play against the winner of the confrontation between Marta Kostyuk (Ukraine, WTA 18) and Yuan Yue (China, WTA 49).

This is Angelina’s second victory this season. At the start of the 500 in Brisbane, she passed Wang Yafan (China, WTA 61).

Kalinin broke Schneider’s unbeaten streak (5 matches), which ended last season with a trophy in Hong Kong.

For the 27-year-old Ukrainian, this is the first victory over a top-20 representative of the WTA ranking since May 2024. Then, in Strasbourg, she defeated Marketa Vondroushova from the Czech Republic, who was ranked 6th at that time.
