Athletes who did not go to prepare for the Olympic Games after the Nove Mesto stage will take part in the European Biathlon Championship. Among them: Bohdan Tsymbal, who ran a short individual race in the Czech stage (59th place). The rest of the Ukrainian national team for the 2026 European Championship are representatives of team B, which after the stage in Brezno-Osrbl left for training in Shushen, Norway, where the tournament will take place.
The composition of the men’s biathlon team of Ukraine for the 2026 European Championship: Bohdan Tsymbal, Denys Nasyko, Artem Tyshchenko, Serhii Suprun, Mykhailo Khmil, Oleksandr Ponomarenko, Roman Borovyk.
Four biathletes from Ukraine at the 2026 European Championship competed at the previous continental championship: Tsymbal, Nasyko, Tyshchenko and Borovyk. The best result in men’s races was demonstrated by Tyshchenko – 15th place in the individual race.
As for the composition of the women’s biathlon team of Ukraine, Valeriya Dmytrenko, Anastasia Merkushina and Liliya Steblina are guaranteed to take part in the 2026 European Championship. One of the three places in the team will be occupied by either Nadia Belkina or Anna Kryvonos, while two more biathletes will be taken from the list of participants of the Junior European Championship.
The European Biathlon Championship will be held the week after the World Cup stage in Novy Mesto – from January 28 to February 1. This will be the last big start before the Olympic Games.
A total of 8 sets of awards will be played at the 2026 European Biathlon Championships – in individual races, sprints, pursuits and classic relays.
The national team of Ukraine has 83 medals at European championships, including 29 gold awards. This is the fourth result in history. The last time the Ukrainian national team won medals at the European Championship was in 2024 – Khrystyna Dmytrenko’s bronze in the sprint.
