Weston said: “I’ve got the wedding prep going on but because Alex is the COO of a company, she’s very, very organised. So she’s on it.

“I’m pretty lucky that I’ve got someone like that who can take a lot of the stress off me.

“I’m so excited. It’s something to look forward to after the Olympics and I can’t wait.

“We’ve got her 30th, we are getting married. I’ve got the Olympics. It’s a pretty mental year.”

The happy couple are already a trio — with ten-year-old cocker spaniel Logan.

Weston, 28, said: “I split my time between my home in London and skeleton HQ in Bath.

“Logan likes to come with me. He’s a very well-travelled dog. He’s very used to the train, although he’s a bit cheeky and jumps on the seats to sit next to me — until the guard comes along and tells me off.

“He’s like my best mate, apart from my fiancee. He supports me massively and it’s quite nice, the fact that he doesn’t care whether I win or lose.

“I prefer dogs to humans a lot of the time. When I’m old and grey and retired from sport, I’m looking forward to being able to sit every night and have a little cuddle with the dog.

“That’s one of the things I’m looking forward to when I’m not an athlete. But, until then, I quite enjoy racing and being away.”

Yet while Weston may be skeleton’s top dog, the sport’s all-time alpha wolf is keeping him humble.

Weston came first in five out of seven races in the World Cup series as he bagged his third career Crystal Globe, ahead of compatriot Marcus Wyatt, who completed a GB clean sweep by winning the other two rounds.

And Weston’s run included a morale-boosting victory on the Olympic track in Cortina — despite him nursing a torn thigh.

However, he has some way to go to match his coach, Latvian Martins Dukurs — a legend of the sport who won 11 out of 13 World Cups between 2009 and 2022.

And Dukurs is not afraid of reminding him to keep his feet firmly on the ground — or as firmly as they can be in such slippery conditions.

Weston said: “I was not expecting the season to go as well as it has. It’s absolutely unreal and it gives me a lot of confidence going into Milan.

“But it is also a bit of pressure because people start putting expectations on you.

“Coming into this season, I tore my quad — a 12cm tear in my rectus femoris if you want the specifics — so not the ideal start to the season.

“At the first race of the year in Cortina, I was pushing about 60, 70 per cent, so to win was pretty crazy.

The Team GB star will also compete in the mixed event and is optimistic of achieving a doubleCredit: AP “Now I’m able to push at 100 per cent and I’m excited to see what we’re able to do from now.

“In St Moritz, I think I recorded the biggest winning margin in 14 years by 1.3 seconds, so I’m in good shape.

“But also at the same time, I’m very much one of those people that feels like the job isn’t done until I cross the line in Milan.

“I’ve done like 47 World Cup races now but my coach Martins WON 61 of them.

“He is very much the GOAT of our sport. I’m using his experience and his abilities to maximise my chances.

“He tries to keep me humble. Even if I win, he’s like, ‘Oh, you messed up this corner, you messed up that corner’.

“We’re both perfectionists and we’re operating at a different level now compared to where we first started.”

One thing Dukurs failed to win, though, was an Olympic gold — and Weston will now have the chance to win two in Italy.

That would make him Team GB’s joint most-decorated Winter Olympian, alongside fellow slider Lizzy Yarnold, who took the women’s title in 2014 and 2018.

As well as the men’s skeleton, Weston will compete in the new mixed event, too.

He said: “Doing the double would be absolutely crazy. Obviously there’s that potential and I think we’re going in there with a good chance.

“Nothing’s ever guaranteed but there’s always that flicker of hope to see what we could do.”

MATT WESTON and his dog Logan have joined pet-food brand Nulo as the first British ambassadors for its global ‘Fuel Incredible’ campaign. Visit uk.nulo.com for more information.
