The leader of the women’s team of Ukraine, Yelyzaveta Sydyorko, qualified in the 500 and 1000 meters – both distances in which she competes. At the shortest distance, Elizaveta advanced to the quarterfinals by the decision of referee Alessandro Mauri after the Frenchman Aurelie Leveque fouled her in the qualifying race. And in the “thousand” the Ukrainian took the third place in the qualifying race after the Hungarian athlete Maia Somody and another Frenchwoman Chloe Olivier and went further with the best time.
Oleh Gandey, the leader of the men’s team of Ukraine, also reached the quarterfinals at the distance of 500 meters. The Ukrainian confidently won his qualifying race – Oleg was ahead of his nearest rival, Turk Denis Ors, by 0.137 seconds.
Other Ukrainian sportsmen and women, including Oleg Gandei at distances of 1000 and 1500 meters, will be able to try to qualify for the main part of the European Championship 2026 tomorrow and the day after tomorrow morning through the second chance Repechage races.
The Ukrainian foursome will continue their struggle in the mixed relay, where Elizaveta Sydyorko, Svitlana Repetska, Oleg Gandey and Rostyslav Leontenko took second place in the quarterfinal race, losing only to the foursome from the Netherlands.
