His record was worse than Ralf Rangnick’s short spellCredit: PA Amorim, 40, claimed he was being treated as a head coach and not as a manager – the role he believed he was supposed to fulfil.
He also aimed a thinly-veiled jibe at director of football Jason Wilcox after missing out on Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo.
As a result, Amorim was hit was the axe to become the seventh manager sacked since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson.
He is the eighth manager to take charge of the Red Devils since the Prem’s inception for the 1992-93 season.
He took charge of 47 league games, winning just 15, which left him with a win percentage of just 31.9%.
He lost more games than he won as United were beaten 19 times during his tenure.
One of the defeats was the notable loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final last term.
The defeat cost the club the opportunity to play in the Champions League this season and all the riches that come with it.

This statistic is the worst out of every United manager in the Prem era.
His record is even significantly worse than Ralf Rangnick‘s who still managed to win 10 of his 24 games.
Amorim’s predecessor Erik ten Hag managed to win over half of his 85 games despite the hefty criticism he faced.
Since Sir Alex retired in 2013, no manager has got close to his impressive 65.2% win percentage.
Jose Mourinho has been the most prolific coach at Old Trafford since the Scot, as he won 53.8% of his 93 games.
Amorim also becomes the third manager since Sir Alex to fail to reach 50 games in charge, alongside Rangnick and David Moyes.
In all competitions, Amorim won 24 of 63 games, making his overall win percentage of 38.1%.
Frank O’Farrell is the most recent boss of the Red Devils to boast a worse record of 37.04% and he was axed in 1972.
Only five managers in the club’s top-flight history have lower win ratios than Amorim.
They are Alfred Hubert Albut, Scott Duncan, Walter Crickmer, Wilf McGuinness, Herbert Bamlett and Jack Robson.
Under Amorim, United conceded the fourth most goals in the Prem.
The only ever-present side to have kept fewer clean sheets in the league than United in the same period are relegation-threatened West Ham.
Sacked Tottenham and Nottingham Forest manager Ange Postecoglou was the only man to lose more games than Amorim’s 19 with 21.
Since he was appointed, United would lay 14th out of 17 ever-present teams in the Premier League.
They only won more points than the Hammers, Spurs and Wolves and six fewer than Forest, Fulham and Bournemouth.
Rivals Manchester City have won 90 points and Arsenal have hit a century, showing the gulf between the teams.
Ruben Amorim has been SACKED as manager of Manchester United!
