“The team boss admitted that Red Bull got it wrong with Tsunoda’s tactics in sprint qualifying”, — write: sport.ua
At the end of the session in Texas, Tsunoda found himself at the very tail of the line of cars waiting to exit the pit lane. With only 1 minute and 45 seconds left on the timer, the Japanese driver was under pressure to complete the lap and start the attempt before the time ran out.
He did not have time to do this and called the situation “quite shocking”. As a result, Tsunoda will only start 18th in Saturday’s sprint.
“We apologize to Yuki,” Mekis told Sky F1.
The program was too dense. We were torn between staying at the track to cool the tires or doing it better in the garage.
We thought we would have enough time to get back to the pits and go out again, but only a few cars made it. We didn’t have time, so we owe Yuki an apology.”
