During the entire match, Angelina served only once – in the first game. In the decisive third set, Kalinin played a hidden match point in the 8th game, and retired from the match point in the 10th game.

Kalinin will play against the winner of the match between Ashlyn Kruger (USA, WTA 64) and Polina Kudermetova (WTA 107) in the semi-finals of the 500 on Australian courts.

In addition to Birrell, Kalinin also won against Wang Yafan, Diana Schneider and Yuan Yue on her way to the semifinals.

Angelina reached the 1/2 finals at the WTA level for the sixth time in her career and for the first time since May 2024. Already on January 4, the Ukrainian will fight for her third final.
