“Alex Albon regrets the lost opportunity at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix”, – WRITE: Sport.ua
The Thai-British racer approached a race with 11 finishes at the 13th Grand Prix, where he finished. It was expected that the route in Baku would bring the Williams team a good result. However, Albon spoiled his chances for the next finish in the top 10, when he was atypically hit the barrier at the entrance to the first turn, damaging the front left suspension and forced to start from the last row.
As a result, the racer finished only the 13th, and the difficult weekend further complicated the incident with the riders Agin, Franco Colapintto, for which the albon received a fine of 10 seconds for causing collision.
Despite the fact that Albon has been in favor of Williams for the fourth season, he has not yet gained the podium. In contrast, Sines, who survived the difficult year after moving with Ferrari, provided the team first finish in the top 3 in the current regulation.
“First, I’m very glad for Carlos,” said Albon.
He spent a very stable weekend from qualification to race. Without mistakes, which was not easy in the conditions of bad weather and difficult conditions. And the car was fast.
I am disappointed, because I did not score the weeks when it may be the easiest way to do it, but it happens. At the same time, it is great for the team standings, thanks to Carlos points, and well for him. He was always extremely fast, but the failure was pursuing him, so it is good that he was finally lucky. ”
The disappointment of Albone increased what he knew: he had a fast car during the race, but it was not possible to use its potential.
“Apparently, we were one of the few cars that could overtake others in DRS trains. We had a pace, we were fast on the track. Many medium-sized cars responded to my sweat and tried to cover me immediately after leaving boxing.
“Then everything got tangled with Franco – it’s my fault, but when we had clean air, maybe within 10 circles of the race, we were fast. It just failed to realize it.
“Obviously, the damage was done during the qualification.”
Before Singapore Grand Prix, Albon ranks eighth in the pilot standings with 70 points.
