A man who called himself a “prophet” and promised to bring Mali national team to victory at the African Cup of Nations, was arrested after the team’s exit from the tournament at the quarter-final stage.

Karamogo Sinayoko received almost £30,000 from fans, assuring that with the help of “spiritual powers” he would help the national team achieve success. After Mali’s dramatic victory over Tunisia in the Round of 16 on penalties, many fans believed in his abilities.

However, in the next round, Mali lost to Senegal with a score of 0:1 and left the tournament. After the defeat, about a hundred angry fans threw stones at Shinayoko’s house, after which the police intervened.

The police accused the man of fraud and detained him. It is reported that the case is being investigated under the article on quackery. Shinayoko himself said after the arrest that he “did everything possible,” but the result, he said, “was decided by God.”
