January 13, Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina (WTA 27) beat former world No. 21 Sorana Kirsti (Romania, WTA 71) in the 1st round of the 2025 Australian Open. 
The match ended with the score 6:4, 6:4 in 1 hour and 34 minutes in favor of the Ukrainian. Svitolina served one serve per game.
In the stands, Elina was supported by her husband and French tennis player Gael Monfils, who will start a match against Giovanni Mpeschi Perricar at the AO.
