Toure played for Esprit Foot Yeumbeul and, according to the investigation, was duped and abducted by a group of fraudsters who convinced him that a viewing at a professional club had been arranged for him. After that, the young goalkeeper was captured and used as a hostage, demanding money for his release.
Ghanaian authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of death, and the Senegalese embassy is assisting.
“The ministry expresses its deepest condolences to the family and assures that it will do everything possible to fully investigate the case,” Senegal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in an official statement.
