The accident happened at 7 am on the reservoir, according to local CBS outlet WHNT.

The organization wrote on X that the accident involved one of the event’s competing anglers, Flint Davis from Leesburg, Georgia.

The person who died during the crash has not been identified, and the total amount of injuries is still unknown.

No other participants were named as victims in the accidentCredit: WIATMLF also noted that emergency personnel immediately responded to the scene and were there helping the injured people.

“Out of respect for those involved, and to ensure the accuracy of all information, no further details will be released at this time,” the professional bass fishing league wrote.

“MLF is working closely with law enforcement and emergency officials.”

The organization ended its post by writing: “Our thoughts, prayers and deepest concern are with everyone affected by this tragic incident.”

The boat appeared to have suffered damage to both the front and back.

Davis’ girlfriend posted on her Instagram story asking her followers to pray for him.

“Please say a prayer for my sweet boyfriend Flint and all others involved in this tragic accident,” she wrote.

Davis posted on Instagram just hours before he was involved in the accident.

The fisherman posted a photo of him smiling as he held two fish during the first day of the invitational.

“Solid day 1. 13-12 has me in 15th place. Looking for another solid bag tomorrow to move up,” he wrote in the caption.

“I’m ready to get back out there!”

Major League Fishing (MLF) confirms that a serious boating accident occurred this morning on Lewis Smith Lake during Day 2 of the Tackle Warehouse Invitational. The incident involved one of the event’s competing anglers, Flint Davis of Leesburg, Georgia. Emergency personnel and local authorities responded immediately and remain on scene managing the situation. Out of respect for those involved, and to ensure the accuracy of all information, no further details will be released at this time. MLF is working closely with law enforcement and emergency officials. Additional updates will be provided as they are confirmed by the appropriate authorities. Our thoughts, prayers and deepest concern are with everyone affected by this tragic incident.

Fans were quick to comment their thoughts and prayers from Davis under his post.

“Sending prayers your way!” one follower wrote.

Davis shared his high hopes for the invitational the day before the tournament started.

“Smith lake starts in the morning,” he captioned a photo of him standing on top of his boat in the lake.

“Ready to get it rolling. Hopefully we can keep this momentum going. Thanks for the partners that help make it happen.”

Outside of competitive fishing, Davis works as a Flint River fishing guide in Georgia.

MLF’s tournament was scheduled to run through Thursday, but it has not been confirmed yet if the competition will continue.

The Cullman County Police Department did not immediately respond to The U.S. Sun’s request for more information.
