“Mountaineer Volodymyr Vasylyshyn became another loss for Ukrainian sports”, — write: sport.ua
Volodymyr Vasylyshyn was born on December 8, 1992 in Yaremcha, Ivano-Frankivsk Region. He was a mountaineer, rescuer, guide and skyrunner, candidate for master of sports in sports tourism, champion of Ukraine in this discipline. His alpinist achievements include successful ascents of Kazbek (5,033 m), Mont Blanc (4,810 m) and the Matterhorn (4,478 m).
“I promised my wife Mont Blanc a long time ago,” Volodymyr captioned this photo on Instagram “On the morning of January 5, Volodymyr registered to participate in the championship of Ukraine in ski mountaineering, which should take place in a few days. It was supposed to be his first start in this discipline. He was really looking forward to it and worried that he would only be able to go out for one run because of the service. On the evening of January 5, his commander reported that Vova had died,” the Federation of Alpinism and Rock Climbing of Ukraine said in a statement.
Vasylyshyn served as a paramedic in the 241st separate brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. He had the rank of sergeant. He defended Ukraine from the beginning of a full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation.

“Volodymyr is a man of action,” writes his friend, mountaineer Taras Pozdnyi. – Constantly filled with good energy and a smile. Despite the circumstances and how difficult it was for him, he always smiled and supported others. Probably, that is why his nickname was Veselyi. When Vova led the groups, I knew 100% that all the participants would be satisfied and the organizational problems would be solved. He had a goal – to climb to 8000, to Manasla. Vova joined the ranks of the Armed Forces as a combat medic. He constantly improved his knowledge and constantly wanted to act. Even when his unit was on retreat, he looked for options to be useful closer to the front and save his brothers. And with the team, he took out and saved more than a dozen fighters. Vova knew how to live and loved this life like no one else. Even near the front, he continued to run and keep fit. And whenever possible, he took part in trail races and showed very good results.”
Volodymyr’s father and wife remained at home.
