He said: “It’s all about getting your head down and getting over the line. Like I always do, shut them fans up and lift the trophy.

“Beau Greaves and Paul Lim, they are the ones I don’t want.”

Littler faces Lithuanian Darius Labanauskas in his opening clash at the Ally Pally on December 11.

Last year, after coming through a tense encounter with Ryan Meikle in his first match, ‘The Nuke’ burst into tears after taking a narrow win.

He admits the nerves will return, adding: “It’s going to be the same. I was nervous when I wasn’t champion. As reigning champion there’s going to be a bit of nerves.

“But once I get a few legs on the board, I’ll be good to go.

“It won’t be worse (as champion), I know what to expect. If I get the shakes or something, I know what to do. There’s going to be nerves, 100 per cent.”

Littler was also asked, as a Manchester United fan, would he prefer his footie side to win the Premiership or retain his world title, he smiled: “No, I’d want to win this again.”

He was also delighted to be on the front of the new Panini World Darts Championship sticker album – which have already sold out.

Littler added: “At the minute I’ve spent a fair bit on cards, I’ve got a collection going on at home.

“But this Panini album for darts looks good. I can’t wait to open a few packs.”
