“Tennisists from the top 20 sent a letter to the organizers of the tournaments of the great helmet”, – WRITE: Sport.ua
Less than two weeks after the lawsuits filed by Professional Tennis Players Association (Association of Professional Tennis players) against ATP, WTA, ITF and ITIA, the queue reached Grand Slam.
The letter calls for a fairer distribution of financial profit in the Grand Helmet tournaments and an increase in part of the income for tennis players – the main actors, without which the competition would be impossible.
Parallels are drawn with other sports, for example, in the NBA, players are guaranteed to receive at least 50% of the total income of the league every season. For comparison, last season, Rolan Garros tournament brought about 338 million euros organizers, and tennis players received only 53.4 million – about 16%, which is significantly less than in most other sports.
Despite the fact that the organizers of the Great Helme in 2024 were paid $ 254 million in a total of 10% more than $ 231 million in 2023, athletes believe that their work on the courts is not sufficiently indexed for a significant increase in the profit of tournaments.
In 2024, the Grand Helmet tournaments gathered an audience of more than 2 billion people in more than 200 countries, with the total number of viewers who visited the stadiums of the four main tennis tournaments of the season amounted to 3,360,000 people. This is 10% more than in 2023.
“There is no doubt that a letter signed by the best tennis players and their representatives, since ATP boards also joined the requirements of athletes, will make the organizers of four Maidors to be able L’équipe.
Since the announcement of the prize fund Rolan Harros – the next Great Helmet tournament – remains several weeks, players’ requirements can significantly affect the future decision.
